Marrickville Main Street Makeover Contributor Image Technique Provides Creative, Candid, Fresh Photography
Philippe Flatt emigrated to Australia in 1979 from Mauritius with his parents and has lived in Sydney’s inner west since 1987. He moved to Marrickville in 1995 and has lived there since. He studied photography at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington, Sydney. His work has appeared in various publications and he recently finished shooting a winter kids’ fashion range for Mother & Baby magazine’s August/September edition.
In 2007, Philippe opened Image Technique, a photography studio specialising in portraiture. The goal was to produce outstanding family portraits that were affordable and offer a variety of packages catering for the discerning customer.
Why I love photographing babies, kids and families… One of the most rewarding things about photographing babies, children and families is seeing how important and valuable the photos are to my clients.
When you do a fashion shoot and it is published, everyone says how fabulous it looks, but in reality the images may remain in a model’s portfolio for only a year and then be forgotten as fashion and trends change. Models don’t really have a connection with their photos as the final selection is left up to an art director or an agency.
When I see the glow on a parent’s face as they view their finished photos for the first time, I know that they will cherish them for years to come and pass them on to their kids when they grow up.
Working with babies is really grounding and it pulls you back down to life’s basics. There is a small window of opportunity to build a relationship with a little one and act like a baby yourself, which puts a smile on my face every time. There is something invigorating about working with subjects who are at the start of their life with so much ahead of them and I find I get a lot of energy from those sessions.
I love connecting with the families, and get a kick out of creating an entertaining experience during their photo session. They really appreciate the lengths I will go to, to get the shots.
With 12 years of photography experience, Philippe is an expert when it comes to babies, children and families. Image Technique creates beautiful artistic family portraits and produces albums, prints, canvases and frames using state of the art studio equipment. We promise an engaging, fun and interactive experience to produce creative, candid and fresh images in a friendly studio environment.
Image Technique also provides a corporate photography service for clients who require headshots for web and print based media with fast turnaround and minimum fuss. Product and location photography are also available. The studio operates 7 days a week by appointment only.
Philippe has this to say about the Marrickville Main St Makeover project:
“The Marrickville Main St Makeover project is very important to me personally, which is why I have donated my photography services. I have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the “heartbeat” of the Illawarra and Marrickville Rd shopping area and I am grateful that I am able to support independent local business owners and not have to endure the sterile and bland atmosphere of a Westfield style shopping mall. Nothing could be worse than replacing all of the independents with the same franchises that dominate the major centres. The health and longevity of the independent retailer providing cultural diversity is paramount to what makes Marrickville one of the most vibrant areas in Sydney, an area in which I am proud to live and work.”
