Tom Kowpak to Everest - Update 8 - They Made It!

Based on an update from Jamie McGuiness we now know Jamie and Tom both summitted and are now back at Base Camp safe and I would like to say 'well' but I don't think that is entirely the case. It would seem they made it to the summit in what would have appeared to be the last summit window for the season and summit conditions were very good. That having been said I think both Tom and Jamie were suffering chest infections or similar, with Jamie coughing up all sorts of red tinged gunk.

There will be a further update once we get the details of the summit push but for now, a very hearty congratulations to you both!!!!

  • Hornsby Mountain Bike Track Approved

    Hornsby Shire Council has approved plans for a new cross-country mountain bike trail in Old Mans Valley. The trail was first proposed in Dec 2008 and since then the plans have undergone a number of changes as the result of consultation with the public.

  • Tom Kowpak to Everest - Update 6

    This update covers the period from 4th May through to 14th May and includes more acclimitisation treks to North Col and beyond. The team is now clearly preparing for their summit push and the blog covers some information about potential summit dates.

    It's been a while since we have heard from Tom however an update has now arrived. This update covers Tom's recent time at Basecamp, Interim Camp and Advanced Base Camp (ABC). It also includes a general update as to current happenings on Everest.

    Tom has now reached base camp - 5150m where he will remain to acclimatise for about a week. This post documents arrival and the first few days there. From Base Camp it will be onto Interim Camp followed by Advanced Base Camp before returning for rest.
