University of Western Sydney (UWS) Campbelltown Campus showed its true colours yesterday when it painted a giant white ribbon on the hill near the Narellan Road entrance to the campus.
UWS launched the 2011 White Ribbon campaign to show its support for the White Ribbon Organisation and to assist to get the message out to the wider community that violence against women is unacceptable. In partnership with local government and other community organisations, UWS jump started the campaign here in Western Sydney as it strives to teach the message that no violence is acceptable and that we must work toward stopping violence against women.
The White Ribbon campaign is a gobal movement led by men who work toward changing attitudes and behaviours that lead to violence against women. They believe that while violence against women is a deeply personal issue for women it is also an issue for men who need to step up and take responsibility for speaking out against violence against women and create a culture within their environment that makes this behaviour unacceptable.
Thebestof Campbelltown is so proud of UWS for getting behind this initiative in our local community.
If you or someone you know is experiencing violence help is available. whiteribbon.org.au has a list of agencies within NSW and Australia that can assist.
