We recently discovered a charity organisation in the Campbelltown area that we didn't know a lot about.
We had some pre-conceived ideas that the St Vincent de Paul Society was a second hand clothing charity organisation. But what we didn't know is the other activities this organisation is involved in around the local Campbelltown area.
More than 25,000 locals have been assisted in some way by the St Vincent de Paul Society - a simply phenomonal figure!
They operate a mental health program, matching people living with a mental illness with a local volunteer friend. They host regular community luncheons at Kalon House of Welcome in Claymore; serving more than 600 meals.
The St Vincent de Paul Society in our area runs a 13 week alcohol, drugs and gambling recovery program. Over 150 people have accessed the program with an aftercare group supported for those who have completed the day program.
This oganisation also provides accommodation for our young local men and women 16 to 21 years and sole parents up to 24 years old. They support a refuge for women and children, a refuge for single men as well as accommodation for fathers and accompanying children.
This sort of community activity is phenomonal and I wonder where all our locals in times of need would be without them. These are just a few of the community projects the St Vincent de Paul Society is involved in and we are so grateful that this organisation is so active in our local community.
On the 16th June, the St Vincent de Paul Society are holding their annual Chartiy Ball in the Macarthur area. The event will be held at Camden Valley Inn and is organised to raise much needed funds to allow these community initiatives to continue.
If you enjoy getting dressed to the 'nines' at a Black Tie event why not organise a group of family, friends or work colleagues to get a table at what promises to be a great night of entertainment. You can know that your night out is helping support this wonderful organisation and by extension our local community.
