What to do for New Years Eve (NYE) 2011!

Bookmark and Share

Stuck for ideas? Haven’t organised your NYE yet? The biggest night of the year is set to be bigger than ever in Balmain and Leichhardt, with options for everybody, young, old and everything in between!

Family Friendly Fireworks

Some of the best spots in Sydney to watch the world-famous New Years Eve fireworks displays are in Balmain. Leichhardt City Council has declared an alcohol ban in some popular party areas for New Years Eve 2011, meaning that the following areas are my pick for the perfect family friendly spot for watching the fireworks:

-        Illoura Reserve

-        Simmons Point Reserve

So for all you out there, young and old, who want a safe, fun place to bring in the new year then those locations above are perfect! Bring a picnic rug, bring your camera and get there early to grab a good spot!

Live Music

Party with the rock stars at the live music hub that is the Annandale – with famous indie rock group British India taking the stage from 8pm. Tickets are selling fast so if this is more your scene then get in quick!

Cockatoo Island

Fancy camping under the summer sky with gorgeous views of the New Years Eve fireworks? There are still some camping sites left on Cockatoo Island which are available through Moshtix. This is a family friendly environment and no BYO alcohol is permitted. However there will be some bars open on the island and some alcohol can be had in the camping areas. But the focus here is on a safe and fun night!

Pub Crawl

Of course if none of the options above are your thing, then maybe a good old fashioned pub crawl up (or down) Darling Street is what you need! I would suggest starting at the iconic Town Hall Hotel and finishing up at the London – the views of the fireworks from the upstairs balcony would be absolutely amazing.
